CITY PARK TRAILS
One of our original objectives was to help make
the trails through our natural areas more "customer friendly".
This would include clearing and widening existing foot trails, putting down
water diversion pipes where necessary, and applying a wood chip
base. As important would be making maps, signs, and guides
available, so that people would know where
they were going and what they were looking at.
6/10/09 -
We will have a Trail workday Friday, August 14,
from 9 to 3. A group from a local college will help us spread
woodchips along the paths at Evergreen Woods (see map below).
We could use everyone's help!
4/18/09 -
During the Southfield Volunteer day today we worked
to clear and widen trails at Bauervic Woods Park. The outer west
trail was covered pretty well with the help of Bradley and two volunteers,
Sandy and Kristin.
We worked off of a GPS map that we had
put together before, in 2008. The map has gaps and left out a couple of
routes, so we'll try to update it this year.
Much of the trail this spring was under water, as if past years' foot
traffic had worn out a river (or sometimes lake) bottom. Maybe we should
blaze new paths and leave the old to its vernal life.
2007 -
A couple of 2006 workdays and the 2007
Southfield Volunteer Day were spent at Evergreen Woods,
the park behind the Civic Center on Evergreen Road.
We even got the chance to chip most of the trails. Below is
a map made from GPS data in 2007.
